Medical Reserve Corps

What is the MRC?

The Medical Reserve Corps (MRC) program was officially launched as a national, community based movement in July 2002. It was formed in response to President Bush’s call for all Americans to offer volunteer service in their communities. The purpose of the MRC Program is to strengthen communities by using their expertise to promote public health throughout the year as well during times of emergency.

The MRC Program is a specialized function of Cupertino’s Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) program. Both are components of Citizen Corps, a national network of volunteers dedicated to making sure the families, homes, and communities are safe from terrorism, crime, and disasters of all kinds. Citizen Corps is part of the President’s USA Freedom Corps.

As a medical professional, your name and contact information will be kept on file with the City; however, it does not obligate you to perform any duties during the disaster. It does provide Worker's Compensation Insurance to you if you are injured while participating in any preparedness training or disaster response. Your DSW identification card is recognized by local law and fire personnel. Call today to schedule your 1 hour briefing on how the City responds to disasters, how you will be requested, what supplies we have available, etc. 408.777.3335 or oes@cupertino.org.
