2021Public Safety Forum
The Public Safety Forum returned to in person activity on Thursday, October 21, 2021.
Despite the threat of rain and winds, approximately 50 members of the attended the Public Safety Forum outside in Civic Center Plaza, including Mayor Paul, Councilmember Moore, Councilmember Wei, and Public Safety Commissioners. The Public Safety Forum has long served as a venue for the community to connect directly to public safety agencies and non-profits in the community.
This year the Public Safety Forum featured the following sessions:
- Dr. Jeff Englander represented the Santa Clara County Public Health Department and provided an update and outlook on COVID-19 including recent changes to CDC guidance on booster shots.
- Battalion Chief Mortenson and Captain Ingram (from Station 71) represented the Santa Clara County Fire Department and presented Zonehaven and community planning for potential evacuations.
- Members of the Wildfire Awareness Initiative (WAI) presented their coordinated youth activities to promote wildfire safety and information sources. All members of WAI are either current or former Kennedy Middle School students.
- In honor of Domestic Violence Awareness Month (October), Ruth Darlene presented the incredible work of WomenSV and the effort to support people in abusive and controlling relationships.
- Captain Urena represented the Sheriff’s Office and discussed recent crime trends and provided tips on personal safety including how to help prevent catalytic converter thefts and when to call 911.
Throughout the 2021 Public Safety Forum, it was clear public safety remains one of the City Council and community’s top priorities. The last 18 months have been hard on everyone, but Cupertino takes pride in providing a safe place for everyone.
