Public Safety, Education, Utilities & More
The following public services are provided to residents and, where applicable, to businesses in Cupertino by agencies or organizations other than the City of Cupertino. Some of the services are based on cooperative agreements with the City of Cupertino or contracts with the City of Cupertino.
Animal Control: San Jose Animal Care and Services provides shelter and field services to residents of Cupertino, as well as to residents of San Jose, Los Gatos, Milpitas and Saratoga.
Buses: Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority (VTA) is an independent special district that provides bus, light rail and paratransit services throughout Santa Clara County, including the City of Cupertino.
Fire Department: The Santa Clara County Fire Department provides fire protection services to the City of Cupertino, as well as to Campbell, Los Altos, Los Altos Hills, Los Gatos, Monte Sereno, Morgan Hill, Saratoga and adjacent unincorporated County areas.
Library: The Santa Clara County Library District operates the Cupertino Library, which is located at 10800 Torre Ave. The City of Cupertino owns and maintains the library facility.
Post Office: The U.S. Postal Service operates the Cupertino Post Office, which is located at 21701 Stevens Creek Blvd.
Schools: Most K-12 students in Cupertino are served by the Cupertino Union School District and the Fremont Union High School District. Children living in a section of northeast Cupertino are served by the Santa Clara Unified School District. For public higher education, De Anza College, which is part of the Foothill-De Anza Community College District, offers two-year degrees, university-transfer programs and certificate program.
Sheriff’s Office: The Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office, West Valley Division, provides law enforcement services to the City of Cupertino, as well as the communities of Saratoga, Los Altos Hills, Moffett and the unincorporated areas of western Santa Clara County.
Utility Services: Water, sewer, garbage and recycling services are provided to Cupertino residents and businesses in accordance with contracts negotiated by the City. Electricity transmission and natural gas services are regulated by the California Public Utilities Commission. See table below for service providers and service areas.
Wildlife Rehabilitation: The Wildlife Center of Silicon Valley, which is located at 3027 Penitencia Creek Road in San Jose, provides care and rehabilitation of injured, sick and orphaned wildlife for Santa Clara County communities from Mountain View to Morgan Hill. a nonprofit organization licensed by the California Department of Fish & Wildlife, the center is funded in part by the cities it serves, grants, events and individual donations.
