CAL FIRE’s Updated Fire Hazard Map for Cupertino’s Response Area Now Online – Review and Comment

To more accurately reflect the zones in California that are susceptible to wildfire, CAL FIRE has published revised Local Response Area (LRA) Fire Hazard Severity Zone maps. These map updates are intended to enhance California’s approach to wildfire preparedness.  The revised maps incorporate 1.4 million additional acres into high and very high fire hazard severity zones statewide, updating code and construction requires for communities most at risk.

LRA maps identify properties in moderate, high, and very high fire hazard severity zones. Each designation is determined based on consistent statewide criteria, including factors such as fuel loading, slope, fire weather, and other relevant considerations. The City of Cupertino is required to adopt an Ordinance consistent with these designations.
