Encroachment Permits

An Encroachment Permit is required for any work to be performed within the public right-of-way. Examples of work that may require an encroachment permit include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Trenching for work on utility lines

  • Utility relocation

  • Driveway expansion or curb, gutter, sidewalk construction

  • Placement of storage containers

  • Temporary lane closures and/or diversion of traffic to accommodate construction

Please read all the instructions below before you submit a permit application

 

Step 1: Register or Login to ACA

Register - An Accela Citizen Access (ACA) account is required. If you do not have an ACA account, please create an account in our User Portal at Accela Citizen Access (ACA)

Step 2: Apply for a Permit through the “Public Works” tab
Follow the steps below to create an Encroachment Permit application:
  1. Click on the Public Works tab
  2. Click on the "Create Application" text in the green banner
  3. Select the Encroachment Permit type and complete the Application prompts, including uploading required documents
  4. After your application has been submitted, you will receive email notifications advising you of the next steps in the permitting process.

Step 3: Obtain Your Issued Permit

After your application is approved and your permit is signed, you will receive an email with a copy of the issued signed permit and a link to download the approved plans. You may also view and download the issued signed permit and approved plans in ACA:

  • Open your record summary using the “View Record Details” button
  • Click on the “Record Info” dropdown at the top of the record
  • Select “Attachments” in the dropdown

Please review the issued signed permit before commencing any work to ensure accuracy and adherence to the general and special conditions noted.
